Top Surgery Virtual and Local Follow-Up Care

One of our primary goals for your gender affirming surgery is for you to have a safe and comfortable recovery. It is important for our surgeons to be able to monitor your progress to make sure you are healing well. This article provides you a guideline on how you can follow up with your surgeon virtually or locally in your area if you are unable to stay in San Francisco for the entire duration of your top surgery recovery.

If you have traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area from a distance for your surgery and are unable to stay for the entire duration of your recovery, then it is possible for your surgeon to monitor your progress and follow up with you virtually with photographs and messaging through our secure patient platform at regular intervals, and using phone calls and telehealth when needed.

If you’re sending photos for a follow-up, remember these guidelines:

• Make sure the photo is in focus, especially if it is a close-up photo – if the photo is not in focus, we can’t properly evaluate it! 
• Make sure you have a solid (preferably white) background
• Ensure good, bright lighting
• Provide both front and side views of your chest

Your surgeons can also collaborate with your local primary care physician (PCP) to ensure necessary follow-up procedures are completed on time. If you plan to have surgery, it’s important to speak with your PCP in advance to arrange correspondence.

It is important to note that there is the chance that you’ll experience undesirable issues regarding your result. In these instances, it may be necessary for you to follow up with your surgeon for a phone call or an in-person evaluation.
